~Ingleton Waterfalls~
24th October 2010
A fine Autumnal day and a trip to an old favourite. Last visited together in November 2000, this is long overdue. How much will it be to get through the gate? Is the ice-cream van still on the top lane? Shall we walk the other way round and avoid paying the charges?

Entrance Fees
My opinion is that this walk is only possible with the aid of the substantial walkways built by the landowner and £4.50 is a fair price to pay for an adult to enjoy the full walk around the two sets of waterfalls. However, I told Karen to walk the other way round and I'd meet her halfway, so as to save a few bob.
The River Twiss
An early, pre-falls view of the River Twiss.
2ps or not 2ps?
I took my pliers and pulled out enough coins to get my £4.50 back, would the bent 2p's and occasional 10p's be accepted in the cafe?
Pecca Falls
Here a bridge crosses Pecca Glen and affords the walkers this view of the first waterfall. Actually, Karen is with me, that bit about her walking the other way round was not true. I shoved her in the boot of the car and said I was on my own.
More Pecca Falls
The Refreshment Hut
At the top of the Pecca Falls is this hut. It's one of those rare places where a tuck-shop is situated, a long way from the nearest road access.
Thornton Force
Surely one of Yorkshire's finest waterfalls. You can go behind the falls and watch the water tumbling down. It looks quiet doesn't it?
Unlce Tom Cobley
He's brought them all and there were lots of other people around. I did well to get the first photo with very few folk in the picture.
Above the Force
Just above Thornton Force there is this valley. There used to be a sign warning visitors that "fatal accidents have occured here", but it's gone to be replaced by better fencing and arrows pointing visitors away from danger.
The Ice-Cream Van!
Still here after all those years. A '99 for me with raspberry sauce! How much?? Walkers follow the well-made path up to the track and then down past the ice-cream van to Twistleton Farm and across fields, in front of Ingleborough, to Beezley Falls.
Ingleborough
"The Falls Refreshment Centre" - under construction
Serving from a hatch and soon to open as a cafe as well. Clearly part of the Ingleton Waterfalls empire and a significant addition to the walk. On another day, we'll plan a stop here, but having just had an ice cream and with the intention of filling up in Ingleton, we moved on.
Beezley Falls
Beezley Falls
We are now walking alongside the River Doe, heading back to Ingleton.

Easy Life
The Woods
After the falls, it's a pleasant walk through the woods on the way back to Ingleton. Once clear of the woods, there are good views back to the gorge.
Ingleton Church
Back to Ingleton in good time and into the The Falls Cafe for a light lunch. By the way, Bernie's is For Sale - opportunity here for somebody.
Walkers: Karen & Me
Time taken: 2hr 20 minutes, over 4.5 miles.
Route: Up River Twiss, along the top and down River Doe. Leaflet available at the entrance.
Weather and conditions: Sunny!
Greetings Count: Another of those places best avoided in fine weather if you don't like crowds.
Richard's Refreshment Review: Tea and soup / toasted fruit bread in The Falls Cafe - next to the entrance to the car park. Quite good, ticked most of the boxes, critically extra hot water with the teapot and butter you can spread i.e. not straight out of the fridge (why do they do that?). I did not have enough two pence pieces to pay for the meal.
